Invisalign- the ‘Invisible Braces’

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment which helps straighten teeth without the brackets and wire of conventional braces.   Dentalspa Geelong is excited to offer Invisalign to our clients to help them achieve optimal smile and confidence. Invisalign cases are selected on an individual basis, with an orthodontic consultation required to establish if you meet selection criteria. Treatment time also varies, with average time frame taking 6-12 months to complete treatment.

So what is Invisalign?

Invisalign are a series of plastic aligners that are worn 22 hours a day for 2 weeks before changing to the next and so on until treatment is complete. Plastic, tooth coloured attachments are placed on specific teeth to assist with tooth movement. Compliance is vital for successful treatment but there are clear advantages to Invisalign:

Invisalign Aligners

1. Aesthetically pleasing- aligners are virtually invisible

2. Comfort- there are no wires to irritate gums

3. Improved Oral Hygiene- aligners are removable, making brushing and flossing a breeze and reduces risk for decay during treatment

4. Doesn’t irritate the mouth or gums

5. There are no diet restrictions- take your aligners out while you ea

But don’t take our word for it. Our Dental Assistant Rachel has begun treatment and

is surprised herself at how easy the process is. Rachel began treatment in June and is up to her 4th aligner out of a set of 20. She has written a short account of her experience so far that she was excited to share.

Invisalign Case Study

‘I am amazed at how simple the system is. A series of aligners are designed for each individual case, aligners are changed over fortnightly, with dental visits quite minimal. Although pateints are responsible for wearing retainers an ideal 22 hours a day, being able to remove aligners to eat/drink and clean, is a major advantage.

Some tenderness is to be expected for the first couple of days after inserting your new set of aligners. It also takes a lttle time to get used to talking with them.

Most people are surprised when they realise that I am actually wearing the aligners, proving that they are in fact quiet ‘invisible’.

The most common concerns in regards to Invisalign is ‘how will the aligners look? Will you be able to notice the plastic attachments?’  but as you can see with Rachel’s case photos- they are clear and attachments barely noticeable.

You can follow Rachel’s progress on our Facebook page. Rachel is happy to answer any questions in regard to Invisalign and her experience- you can email with subject Ask Rachel at info@dentalspa.com.au or via Facebook.
